2011 – A Record Year For Ducati UK

Ducati UK start the New Year on the back of a record breaking 2011 which not only saw significant increases in sales but also ‘best ever’ figures across the board.

Ducati UK closed 2011 with its best sales result since 2003 with 2345 units sold and in a challenging economic environment recorded best ever market share figures in the UK. On the back of these results it also became the fastest growing Motorcycle brand in the UK with motorcycle sales up 15.3%.

Sales were spread evenly across the product range with Monster, Superbike, Multistrada and Diavel sharing equal slices of the cake. Traditionally Superbikes accounted for 50% of Ducati UK’s overall sales, however, with the shrinking of the Superbike market, Ducati has reacted to market changes and evolved the range with award winning product such as the Multistrada and Diavel (MCN bike of the year 2011).

It is not only Motorcycle sales that have contributed to the success, Ducati UK also recorded best ever revenues for Apparel and Accessories which contributed to the company’s highest ever turnover. Ducati has not only led the way through sales and product innovation, but also by offering customers a unique experience through events and test ride experiences.

2011 was a busy year for the company with a number of significant events taking place, most notably the move to new purpose built headquarters at Silverstone, the introduction of the 848 Challenge to the British Superbike Championship and the hugely successful ‘Ducati Days’ track event at Silverstone which saw the first public use of the new Silverstone Wing.

For 2012 Ducati UK looks set to continue in this vein with strong New Year sales and the highly anticipated 1199 Paniagle which has already been voted as ‘the most awaited bike of 2012.’ UK dealers are reporting strong interest in the 1199 Panigale with many dealers already asking for an increase in allocation of product to cope with this unprecedented demand.

Tim Maccabee, Ducati UK MD commented “These results reflect not only the hard work of the Ducati UK team, but also the fantastic product and support from our colleagues in Bologna. Delivering the result in the UK would be impossible without our first class dealer network and of course and a big thank is due to every Ducati fan and customer in the UK”

Ducati unveils a new model of 2012 rangeDucati confirm their 2012 Streetfighter 848 with the first officially released images of the brand new model set to add everyday accessibility to the Italian manufacturer’s famous naked sport bike family.
Combining a new and brilliantly engineered 848 Testastretta 11° engine with the enhanced geometry of a chassis that provides confidence-inspiring agility, the Streetfighter 848 has enriched its user-friendliness with a smooth and flexible power delivery, revised ergonomics and Ducati Traction Control.

The Ducati Streetfighter scored a round one knock-out when it entered the ring for the first time at the Milan show back in November 2008, winning the ‘Most Beautiful Bike’ award and raising the bar for extreme nakeds. Available from November 2011 onwards, the new fighter is dressed in red for Ducati traditionalists, while yellow makes a return for mid-range purists and “dark stealth” provides a matte-black reminder of the Streetfighter’s aggressive image.

More information will soon be available. Stay tuned!

Carlos Checa visits factory to celebrate Ducati’s 300th World Superbike victory

August 30, 2011

Before leaving for Germany’s Nurburgring circuit and the 10th round of the 2011 World Superbike Championship, Team Althea Racing’s Carlos Checa took time to visit the Ducati factory in Borgo Panigale, Bologna and celebrate with the management and technicians of the famous Italian manufacturer.Passing the historic milestone of 300 World Superbike race victories for Ducati was an honour taken by Checa onboard his Ducati 1198 in race one of the Silverstone round of the series in July, a victory that he dedicated to Ducati by autographing the celebratory graphic that currently welcomes visitors to the main reception area of the Bologna factory. Ducati management officially thanked Checa for his incredible achievements so far this season before celebrations continued with the staff of Ducati Corse in the race
department of the company.
The landmark 300th victory for Ducati represented the 9th race win for Checa in 2011, but victory also in race two at Silverstone that same day brought his year’s total wins to 10, further strengthening his lead for the
Riders’ title and Ducati’s for the Manufacturers’ title.

The impressive performance underlined the Spaniard’s incredible form this year, the professionalism of Team Althea Racing and the continued competiveness of the Borgo Panigale built twin-cylinder motorcycle.

Ducati’s historic 300 race wins in the World Superbike Championship started with victory for Marco Lucchinelli in the first ever World Superbike race at Donington Park, England in 1988 and continued as 25 more Ducati-mounted riders wrote themselves into the pages of motorcycle racing history. Legendary riders such as the incredible Carl Fogarty, Doug Polen, Raymond Roche, Troy Corser, Giancarlo Falappa, Neil Hodgson, Piefrancesco Chili, Ben Bostrom, James Toseland, Noriyuki Haga, Troy Bayliss and many others up until the current World Championship leader, Carlos Checa. The victories have generated a total of 155 Ducati pole positions, 753 podiums, 13 Rider’s and 16 Manufacturers’ World Championship titles.

Carlos Checa and Team Althea Racing now enter the German round this weekend with a confident 62 point lead over Max Biaggi for the World Championship, while Ducati currently lead the race for the Manufacturers’ title by 35 points.

Claudio Castiglioni passes away

August 17, 2011

After a long fought battle with disease, Claudio Castiglioni, MV Agusta President and patron of the Cagiva brand, passed away in a hospital in Varese, Italy last night.

While Castiglioni’s entrepreneurial quest was born with the Cagiva brand, he will be remembered for his influence on Italian motorcycling as a whole, including Ducati. In fact, in 1985 Ducati was acquired by the Castiglioni brothers, Claudio and Gianfranco, only to be sold in 1996 to the American investment fund Texas Pacific Group who, in turn, sold its shares in 2006 to Investindustrial, the current owner of the motorcycle brand of Borgo Panigale.

It is with a the utmost respect that Ducati celebrates the enthusiasm, passion, courage and determination of Claudio Castiglioni and his impact on Italian motorcycle history. We join his family, his company and the many friends and motorcyclists in mourning his death.

Thank you Claudio, we’ll miss you!
